How to Enhance Your Mindfulness and Peace of Mind with Walking Meditation

Mindfulness and peace of mind are two things that many of us seek in our lives. Unfortunately, these goals can be difficult to achieve when we’re constantly on the go. If you’re looking for a way to enhance your mindfulness and peace of mind, consider trying walking meditation. This is a great way to enjoy the outdoors while also gaining some mental clarity. In this blog post, we will discuss how to perform walking meditation and the benefits it can offer you!

Find a Safe Space, Center Your Attention

When you’re ready to start your walking meditation, find a comfortable place to walk where you won’t be disturbed. Once you’re in place, begin by focusing on your breath. Pay attention to the way your chest and stomach rise and fall with each inhale and exhale. Then, focus your attention on your feet. Notice the way they feel as they make contact with the ground. Pay attention to the sensation of your feet moving through space. Bonus points if you are barefoot and grounded to the earth.

Expand Into Your Surroundings

Once you’ve centered your mind on your breath for several minutes and you’re comfortable you can begin to focus on the world around you. Allow your gaze to move around, taking in the details of your surroundings. Notice the plants, animals, bugs, spiderwebs, stones, and anything else you come across. As you move from one thing to the next, think about its expansiveness. For example, when you see a blade of grass, appreciate its small size and the fact that it is part of a larger picture. All of the blades of grass in the world make up a beautiful tapestry.

Overflow With Appreciation & Gratitude

When you’ve been walking and observing for a while, it’s time to start connecting with everything you see. For each thing you notice, say something like “thank you,” “I see you,” or “I appreciate you.” This helps to create a feeling of gratitude and connection. If you find your mind wandering, simply refocus on your breath and start again.

Be thankful for this exact moment in time and space. The whole universe orchestrated all previous events for this moment. You are here now reading this. You are part of the magic.

Concluding Your Walking Meditation

Walking meditation is a great way to enhance mindfulness and peace of mind. It’s also a great way to connect with nature and appreciate the world around us. Give it a try next time you need a mental break. This exercise allows you to notice things that you otherwise wouldn’t. More often than not we are rushing by, using our phones while walking or our mind is just focused elsewhere. If we can take a moment to simply be, it allows us to recenter and find some peace. Try it out for yourself and see how it goes! Namaste.
